Summer is coming to its inevitable end. . .if you are gearing up to go back to school, consider the following 5 tips to get you in the best mind set for a great school year:
1. Sleep is good. Want to perform at your very best? Actually retain what your teachers are talking about? Get more sleep. You might be surprised, but studies prove that to feel really rested, teens should get about 9 hours.
2. Eat a good breakfast. Not to sound bossy or clichéd (“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day”), but eating a healthy breakfast gets your body and brain fired up and ready to tackle the day.
3. Get organized early. It’s easy to fall behind when there are so many things pulling you in different directions. Homework. Exams. Soccer practice. Volunteering. Keeping a calendar/planner showing due dates, etc. will let you see exactly how your schedule is filling up, and when you need to focus on XYZ.
4. Be a Smart Shopper. This means not only do some comparison price checks (if you have a smart phone, you can check other retailers’ prices on the spot), but also make sure you are not shopping on an empty stomach. Look for department sales items to begin on Wednesday instead of the advertised Friday.
5. Cut yourself some slack. Don’t worry – everyone gets nervous about going back to school, even if they might not make it obvious. Also, the start of a new school year is the perfect opportunity to get involved in a new activity, talk to people outside of your usual friend circle, and more.
Have a wonderful school year!
