$2.95 Emergency Load Using a Credit Card Avoid...
Teach your teen to plan ahead and prepare for financial surprises. Help them spend responsibly and avoid the emergency load fee.
Sign up for either the 6-month or the 12-month SpendSmart subscription plan and get the first credit card or debit card load after the initial load for free.
$1.50 ATM Withdrawal2 Avoid...
Using the SpendSmart card is much safer than carrying cash (and can be tracked). However, if your teen needs cash for something, have them use the ‘cash back’ option offered by many retailers instead of going to an ATM.

2A third party fee may apply from ATM operators for any type of transaction including balance inquiry, even if you do not complete the withdrawal. Fees for using an international ATM are higher.
$0.50 ATM Balance Inquiry Avoid...
There is no need to use an ATM for a balance inquiry. It is easier and FREE to check your balance by using the SpendSmart mobile app or logging into the website. If you are signed up for instant text alerts, you can see the remaining balance on the most recent text.
$0.50 ATM Decline Avoid...
In the event you decide to use an ATM, make sure there are enough funds in the account. Double check by looking at your balance beforehand for FREE, using either the SpendSmart mobile app or the website, or by looking at your most recent text alert.
$7.95 Card Replacement Avoid...
Avoid this fee by keeping track of where your SpendSmart Card is at all times. In the case of loss or theft, be sure to call customer support right away.
$3.00 Monthly Inactivity Fee Avoid...
After you have had the card for 2 months, an inactivity fee is charged after 30 days of card inactivity.

There is no inactivity fee if you have the 6-month or 12-month subscription plan, or if you use your SpendSmart Card or fund your SpendSmart account at least once a month.

All ATM related activity fees will be reimbursed to your SpendSmart Card account at the end of the trial period. Fees imposed by 3rd party ATM operators or retail reload providers may apply based on usage. In order to avoid being charged any SpendSmart fees, you must cancel your card during the free trial period by calling customer service or by logging into your account on spendsmartcard.com.
